I am Geraldine McGreevy, a piano teacher and singing coach based in North Harrow, Greater London. I have been listed on music tutor websites for many years now, but this website is new (2023).
This site will tell you most of what you need to know about me, my teaching, logistics and much else, but feel free to email me with any questions via the form on the contact page.
My performing career was at the top international tier of the profession; I bring this depth of experience to my teaching, enriching the musical experience of my students.
I am inventive, analytical and practical, and I love problem-solving. I have created a lot of original teaching material which I use with much success. My teaching is extremely personalised and will bring out the potential of the student whatever their unique strengths or challenges (including those related to learning difficulties), as long as they are willing and able to practise and follow my guidance.
I teach the foundations solidly. I do not take shortcuts or rush any student beyond their capabilities in order to meet an arbitrary deadline, such as graded exams.
I am very friendly and approachable, and lessons with me are often full of laughter, as you will see from my testimonials.
I teach piano up to Grade 6. I am also able to coach students beyond Grade 6 in musicality and interpretation. I studied piano beyond Grade 8, at graduate level, but not having a diploma in piano I lack the necessary depth of knowledge of the very advanced repertoire to take sole responsibility for leading students through the advanced Grades 7 and 8.
My piano teaching covers theory, using the ABRSM graded syllabus, but I can also teach theory as a separate subject.
My performing career was as a classical singer, and can offer much value as a singing coach, so please get in touch if you are working towards an audition or performance and would like the benefit of my experience and insight.
Any adults interested in learning piano please feel free to jump to the page for adult learners, but you might find much of the other content on this site relevant, especially the pages about goals and about practice.
